In 2014 I replaced the QFH antenna from Winkler with another QFH antenna from Vierling. The results are better, however the environment changed too as I had to take down my dish antenna for maintenance. So the final judgement will only be possibly once the dish is reinstalled.
The receiver is controlled with the software from Vierling called "Weatherman Control" and the
audio is processed in the soundcard of the PC using the registered version of the software WXtoImg.

My latest setup is the Weatherman receiver and a QFH antenna from Winkler Antennenbau (from Germany) which I bought in 2013 and installed on my new QTH in the Freiburg area.

audio is processed in the soundcard of the PC using the freeware version of the software WXtoImg.
The reception results of this setup are not as good as from the other installation with the optimized Vierling QFH antenna most likely due to the location of the antenna (mounted lower).

This is a collection of images from the polar orbiting weather satellite NOAA-18 which started during my summer vacation 2011 when we stayed at our summer house. Later I received also from my primary home. The pictures are sorted by date of reception.

All pictures during August were received on 137.9125 MHz using a wideband black-box receiver PCR-100 from ICOM (shown on the picture to the right). The used bandwidth in
FM mode was 50 kHz. Thus doppler compensation was essentially not necessary. With
this receiver and a 2m eggbeater omni-directional antenna I received the automatic
picture (APT) transmissions of NOAA-18 below. I decoded them using the sound card of my PC and except for the first day when I used JVCOMM I used the freeware version of the software WXtoImg.
