Amateur Radio

 

Starting in January 2010 I changed my job. The company I now work for is headquartered in Zurich/Switzerland. The operational headquarter is in Freiburg/Germany. Meanwhile I acquired a house in the Breisgau area close to the company I work with. Here I now have the opportunity to build up a Ham Radio station with antennas on the roof of the house.
My QTH is blocked in some directions by mountains of the black forest and also Kaiserstuhl. If you click on the picture below you will get a simulated view of my horizon. Please note that the picture is quite large as the width is approx. 28000 pixels.


Occasionally I am setting up an Echolink simplex gateway using the callsign DD1US-L and the node number 518482. It is then based on the TM-D710E and a DELL netbook connected to the Internet by WLAN. The TM-D710E supported nicely simultaneous operation of the APRS station and the Echolink gateway.

As mentioned above my station is not yet fully setup. Below you can see some pictures of my recent antenna setups. I will describe the setup more detailed once the station including the antennas are fully set up.

In this section you can find some information about repeaters/digipeaters/Echolink-gateways and beacons in the area of Freiburg. You can see also see how far away they are from my QTH in the Freiburg area. The colour code in the table shows which repeaters I can reach well (green), which not at all (red) and which are weak but (sometimes) operable. If the call sign of the other station is underlines, you can click on it and you will get a calculated terrain profile between my location and the other station. You can thus see, whether a line of sight link is available and/or whether there are obstacles in the frequency dependent first fresnel zone.

DARC OV-Freiburg A05

Freiburg also has a local amateur radio club which is part of DARC (Deutscher Amateur Radio Club). OV-Freiburg "A05" has about 140 members and owns a nice club home with a decent radio station DK0FR. The club home is located next to Freiburg airport (exactly at the north eastern corner of the airport in JN38WA). The homepage of the local club "A05" can be found when clicking on the picture to the right.
The club meets every month on the 4
th Friday at 19:30h local time in the club home.
If you want to get in touch with members of A05 you may try the following frequencies: on 2m 144.550 MHz and 145.525 MHz simplex, on 70cm 433.500 MHz simplex, on 10m 28.600 MHz simplex. Furthermore you may the nearby repeaters DB0ZF (145.700 MHz -0.6 MHz shift, 438.850 MHz -7.6 MHz shift), DB0FRG (438.700 MHz -7.6 MHz shift) and DB0YE (439.175 MHz -7.6 MHz shift).
The clubstation also hosts an APRS beacon (144.800 MHz) and a PR digipeater (438.075 MHz). Both use the callsign DB0FRB.
